Shopping Carts – Open Source or Paid Platform?

Clearly stated and obvious, I'm an open source advocate… Open source technology has drastically changed my life and is certainly changing the world as we know it. We still have room for some proprietary, closed-source software… A bit contradictive, yes… But sometimes people need the support and the resources that accompany paid software. Moreover, open source technology isn't for those people who don't know anything about the general concepts and practices. They try to cut corners, then end up spending more… I've seen it a hundred times. shopping cart software. Case in point… people don't want to mess around with their finances or their "bread and butter."  They need to make sure everything is working properly, especially if they're not the most technologically inclined. shopping cart software also needs to be flexible and cater to the client… QuickBooks integration is a good example. Here's a short list of some open source shopping carts – freely available

  • Virtuemart – with Joomla!
  • OSCommerce
  • ZenCart
  • AgoraCart
  • xCart
  • Ubercart – with Drupal
  • closedShop
  • facecart
  • CubeCart
  • … several more available

Non-open source software Ashop Commerce – Full shopping cart software Upon researching several paid shopping carts, I've found that Ashop Commerce (www.ashopcommerce.com) is the best. It really comes down to one thing… Support. Pricing is good, but support is great. These guys provide a ton of support. They give their customers many forms of communication, anytime. They offer free trials. The have a credible and substantial client list. They have feature-rich platforms… the list goes on. Highly recommended.
