Okay, so I thought I'd just begin a new post dedicated to Technorati's ranking/authority system. How do we easily improve it? Well, this is how I jumped about 300,000 spots in a few weeks. I'm just about certain that I'll have to deal with the SEOs jumping down my throat… but I'm IT IS, WHAT IT IS. What technorati looks for is backlinks, as we've established (Discussed Here). Now, they say that they won't count any backlinks from the same url, or subdomain… but you'll soon learn otherwise. Objective: What we need to do is ping Technorati with as many URLs as possible. These URLs will be from my blog or site as well as any other blog or site containing my URL. First: We need a tool to see all of our internal links. For instance, I have http://www.openjason.com and http://www.openjason.com/2008/01/22/joomla-15-is-now-stable/, etc. We need to find all links. The tool that'll do the job is: LinkSleuth. You can find LinkSleuth here: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html#Download
After you download and install, you simply type in your URL and it generates a complete link structure of your blog or site, and is exportable. So, export to a Tab separated file… Second: If you know of any blogs or sites that have you on their blogroll (or your URL on every page of their site), LinkSleuth that site too. So, if I’m on your blogroll, I’d get every link your site outputs… Third: Find all current backlinks, or blogs/sites that already link to you. There’s several sites that help you to do this. But I found that XinuReturns give me the information I need to have. Basically xinureturns checks your site for authority, del.ici.ous links, PR, backlinks, etc… Run xinureturns against your blog or site. You’ll see how many backlinks you have according to Google, Yahoo, etc… However you choose to get a list of all your backlinks will work just fine… I suggest going to the Yahoo backlinks simply because you can easily export all of your backlinks to a tab separated file, which is what we’re working with anyway. Link to XinuReturns: http://xinureturns.com/
Now what? Okay, now that we’ve compiled a list of hundreds, or thousands of links, we need to get the “pinged.” How do we do this? Well, there’s a couple of ways… 1.http://sebastians-pamphlets.com/increase-your-technorati-reputation/ – this tool allows you to submit several URLs at the same time. This is an excellent tool, so cheers to our friend Sebastian. 2.A little more complex way to do it… and without bogging down other peoples servers is to use the Imacros extension for firefox. If you go this route, all you need to do is open the Imacros console, choose the “#current.iim” file, tab over to EDIT the file, which will open Notepad, and then enter all of your links like this: URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://peppe-garibaldi.stumbleupon.com/tag/open-source/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://jasontmartinez27.stumbleupon.com/tag/web-design/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://www.sleepdynamictherapy.com/category/sleep-drugs/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://www.webanalyse.fr/webanalyse/index.php?detail=all URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://www.sleepdynamictherapy.com/category/sleep-apnea/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://jasontmartinez27.stumbleupon.com/tag/albuquerque/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://jasontmartinez27.stumbleupon.com/tag/open-source/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://joelm-citycenter.stumbleupon.com/tag/open-source/ URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://www.webanalyse.fr/webanalyse/index.php?Top=200305 URL GOTO=http://www.technorati.com/ping/?url=http://www.webanalyse.fr/webanalyse/index.php?Top=200102 What we’re doing here is pinging technorati in an automated way, but as if we were doing it manually. If you’re even slightly familiar with Excel, you’ll easily be able to get all of your links to look like this. I have an Excel Template that will do this for you easily and quickly. Let me know if you want it. All you do is copy/paste your URLs in the opened Notepad document. Very easy to do.
Now, all you do is sit and wait. You’ll ping technorati with tons of URLs, many in which won’t be discovered by Technorati, therefore it’s NEW content as far as their concerned. You can also do several other things that will really help… For one, as your stumbling around, take note of blogs your run into. Drop off a comment or two on random posts, frequently. Once you make a comment, make sure that your comment is published (sometimes you’ll see that it needs to be moderated) and grab the URL of the post. Now, go to http://www.technorati.com/ping and enter that URL. Hopefully you made your comment on the post before Technorati discovers it. If so, you’ll see some Technorati love… because you’ll have a site linking to you. As I’m stumbling, I always look at the blog’s ranking on Alexa and Compete, using the firefox extension called “searchstatus,” found here: http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/ If the blog in which I’m commenting has a good rank, I’ll leave a comment. If not, I’m more likely to skip over it. To be honest, I should just leave a comment everywhere… it’s probably a better route to go… Why? Well, because a lot of times, the less known blogs haven’t had their posts discovered by Technorati… therefore, you comment on them, then get them discovered, just in time to enjoy the Backlink Love! Comments/Questions? One thing to note: You'll see a huge improvement. HUGE improvement. But brace yourself for a small decline in rank a few days later… shouldn't be too much, but just to give you a heads up… You'll still be sitting pretty! Also… as far as gaining more FAVS… I believe this to help a little bit, but not as much as the backlinks. Either way, click this link to add openjason to your FAVS… Thanks! http://www.technorati.com/faves/?add=http://www.openjason.com

this is a very interesting and very informative blog. I’ll visit it again.
Good advice…although it did sound snobby when you said, “If the blog in which I’m commenting has a good rank, I’ll leave a comment. If not, I’m more likely to skip over it. To be honest, I should just leave a comment everywhere…”
Not every blog is praying for massive traffic, although we
all do like appreciation. ranking is pretty subjective…”
But thanks for the pointers!
Thanks Jason… I agree with you. It wasn’t intended to be snobby, but you’re right, it certainly sounded that way. Thanks for the comment!
Great one more thing to add to my to-do list….this is great information, and it will probably take me 2 weeks to get it done (with my other jobs I do). Guess NOW I know why I get so few comments!
Thanks for the information – I hate where my blog ranks…

hi, where should we install that joomla? in ourwebserver or just on our wome pc?
well, here I am again! it really is cool!
Wow, great minds think alike. We just finished automating that strategy — we even used Imacros as the pinging mechanism. It’s now a free tool: http://promote-my-site.com/index.php/component/option,com_pmsping/Itemid,6
it all seems so complex, anyone out there that has had the time to do it all and has got results please lemme know
hey there i really need help with my technorati ranking! anyway my url is http://kchanneluap.blogspot.com hope you can take the time to help me with my ranking or if you like the content of my blog you can also link us to your blog. thanks a lot. hope to here from you soon
Interesting read!
It does seem very compilcated. Do you have any links on how to improve your rank the old fashion way?
Great post! I should have read this prior to posting about technorati myself!
Nice article. One question though… related to leaving comments point…
What about sites/blogs where links are set to ‘nofollow’? Like yours for example! These links won’t really count when our page rank is calculated, right? So is there really any point in pinging those URLs where you have left a comment with a link to your site?
true – but outside of pagerank, there are benefits of linking to places that use ‘nofollow’
Very nice !!!
I always thinking how do I promote my technorati rank.
I will try your tips.
I could not add any or my blog http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-increase-your-technorati.html
to my favourite nor anyone can.
It says
”
My Favorites
You don’t have any Favorites yet
Favorites lets you keep track of your favorite blogs.
To designate any blog as a favorite just look for the Favorite it links
when you’re looking at blogs or posts.”
It seems Technorati is very bad and buggy webste.
Add me ( http://technorati.com/faves?sub=addfavbtn&add=http://arjudba.blogspot.com ) to your favourites. I will add you.

Hi! I have seen many such websites that provide competitive analysis for free. My personal favourite is a href=http://www.estimix.com rel=nofollowwww.estimix.com/a . It seems to generate very accurate traffic information, too.
Very good article. It’s about time I start working on our blog’s technorati rank.
Good informative blog.Thanks..
