StumbleUponSlowly – The Reason StumbleUpon is Slow to Load.
Has anybody noticed a substantial decrease in StumbleUpon’s load time? You’d think that StumbleUpon would have this all worked out. I’m a big fan of Stumble, but it’s tough to sit through a multi-minute load time on each page… So what’s the problem? Is it spammers? Hackers? Poor technology implementation?
I’m writing this post to open up discussion….

it actually works as it did the first time for me. I did not see any change in the loading time of stumbleupon.
Although some pages stop loading when Firefox tries to get google ads from googlesyndication.com

Isn’t it because StumbleUpon prefetches some of the pages so it’ll load faster? What makes it slower to you?

Google Adsense seems to be degrading website performance on a number of sites recently including my own online ‘emo’ community.

For me, on ADSL, Stumbleupon has good days (< about 2 seconds to BEGIN loading a stumble link) and it has bad days (totally unresponsive for minutes or more, as it was just 5 minutes ago @ 9:15PM EST Nov 9 2010). Some days, I get both extremes within the stretch of a few minutes. I do remember the good old days when time from click to the very beginning of loading a page was under a second, but wow, that was so long ago….
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the issue is two fold: server load has likely increased due to the popularity of SU increasing it's membership, and increased payload sizes round trip to each member since day one.
I recently started using use Ghostery with Firefox, and I noticed some sites refused to load properly (or at all) when I blocked EVERYTHING. Oh well, no loss because I do not want to be followed.
